There you are in the back seat, gazing at the blur of passing fields. We’re on the way down to Ventry, thinking of pier jumping and doughy bogs. We stopped at the garage in Abbeyleix. Brennan’s, full loaf, Tayto, the thick butter is going soft. Ready for crisp sandwiches to stick to the roofs of our mouths. The stench of cow dung invades the car. And yes, @c1_v_1c and I are up there flicking the knobs of the radio, in control. You are in a state of midlands automotive bliss. The engine purrs and the bangers keep chugging along. And guess what, tomorrow this very dreamscape is becoming a real tangible thing! Join us tomorrow for three whole hours of fun in @feed.amsterdam or on mixcloud (5-8 CET). Tomorrow in @feed.amsterdam, my dad and I will be at the decks playing you some of our favourite tunes from the live gigs we’ve loved this summer. From the gladiatorial arena of Verona to Tollwood Sommerfestival in Munich, Paradiso Amsterdam to the Pepper Canister in Dublin, we were there! I have flown in my father specially for this and we truly are desperate to entertain. This short, highly detailed passage, translated into English from Swedish, shares the difficulties faced by divers in diving bells when pulling up the Vasa after 333 years on the Stockholm seabed. The low salinity of the harbour preserved the ship as chewing shipworms and sucking molluscs require more salt to exist and feed. Skeletons, the plaque on the teeth of sailors, knives, cannons, wooden spoons, leather boots and bag handles made of whale bone came up to the surface for air also, entombed down there in the darkness since 1628. I took a photo of this passage as it reads like some kind of poetry, the poetry of sludge, perhaps. The ship is brown now, over the centuries becoming the colour of its adopted home. The lions, mermaids, soldiers and the plump cherubs adorning the stern used to be painted in garish colours but with time they peeled away and drifted off into the blue Baltic.
